Walden Lee ("Pug") Ainsworth was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on November 10, 1886 and died on August 7, 1960. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and commanded a destroyer squadron, the U.S.S. MISSISSIPPI and the Pacific Fleet. In December, 1942, he took command of cruiser-destroyer task forces in the Solomon Islands.
